General Studies - Kinds of Soil
Soils in different places are different in nature. There are mainly three kinds of soils.
Sandy Soil: Sandy soil is usually found on te beach(seashore) or in a desert. It is grey or brown colour. Soil cannot hold much water. There is a lot of air in the space between these particles. Sand particles are big in size.
Clay Soil: Clay particles are very fine. Clay can hold a lot of water, but very little air. Clay is sticky. That is why its particles are tightly packed.
Loam: Loam is made by mixing equal amounts of clay and sand. Loam can hold sufficient of air and water. Loam containing humus is the best soil for the growth of plants. Humus makes the soil fertile.
