General Studies - Crop Production - 8th class

Agriculture began 10,000 years ago and enabled humans to settle down in one place.

Horticulture deals with the production of vegetables, fruits, flowers & decorative plants.

The step -  by - step methods in modern agriculture are:

Preparation of the soil by ploughing and levelling it.

Sowing seeds or transplanting plants at correct depth & correct distances.

Manuring, either by natural methods (field fallow, crop rotation, mixed cropping), or by using manures & fertilizers.

Irrigation, i.e. supplying the right amount of water at the right time.
